Renewable power from flowing water

Many streams, rivers, weirs and watercourses have the potential to generate renewable power. For PicoStream to be commercially worthwhile, sites are typically best suited to flows above 200 litres per second.

Every site is different. Flow rate, water speed, head and site layout all affect generation potential, which is why we assess each location individually. Once a site survey is booked, we’ll visit your site, confirm suitability and provide an estimated annual generation figure.

Access, anchoring points and channel shape all affect how the turbine can be installed.

What could I generate?

As a guide, a site with around 200 litres per second of flow and approximately 1.4m of head could generate around 10 MWh per year, depending on site conditions.

A higher-flow site may achieve similar output with less head. For example, around 300 litres per second with approximately 1m of head could deliver a comparable annual generation figure.
