PicoStream is designed with fish safety and river ecology in mind. It does not require dams, abstraction, impoundment or tight intake screening, and the turbine rotates slowly within the existing flow.

PicoStream is best suited to rivers, large streams, weirs, mill races and flow channels with a strong, consistent flow. Suitability depends on flow, head, water speed, access, anchoring options and riverbank rights. We confirm this during a site survey.

Generation depends on site conditions. As a guide, a suitable site with around 200 litres per second of flow and approximately 1.4 m of head could generate around 10 MWh per year. We provide a site-specific estimate after survey.

PicoStream does not require traditional abstraction, impoundment or transfer licences from the Environment Agency. A simpler FRAP permit may still be needed depending on the site, which we handle as part of the project.

Solar and wind are valuable renewables, but output varies with daylight, weather and season. PicoStream can generate day and night where water flow is consistent, making it a useful complement to other renewable technologies.

PicoStream is designed for rapid deployment compared with conventional hydropower. The turbine itself can often be installed within hours, subject to site access, permissions, anchoring requirements and electrical connection.

We visit your site, assess the watercourse, confirm suitability and estimate likely annual generation. If the site is suitable, we confirm the installation approach and next steps.
